HOW WE BUILT THIS
We compile these profiles from each university's own published admissions pages and review them monthly. Entry requirements do change mid-cycle, and universities sometimes publish updates without announcing them.
Use this page to get oriented quickly, build your shortlist, and work out which questions to ask — then confirm the specifics that your application depends on (grades, admissions test, fees, eligibility) directly with the university before you apply. If you spot something that looks out of date, tell us and we will check it.

Very New Medical School: Brunel is one of the newest UK medical schools. As information continues to develop, verify all details directly with the university.
Considering Brunel Medicine? Here's a complete breakdown of entry requirements, admissions criteria, and the application process for 2026 entry.
Brunel University London has established a medical school to help address the shortage of doctors in West London and beyond. Located in Uxbridge, Brunel offers good transport links to central London while providing a campus-based university experience.
As a new medical school, Brunel represents an opportunity to be part of a developing programme with modern facilities and curriculum design informed by the latest educational research.
| Qualification | Requirement |
|---|---|
| A-Level Grades | AAA |
| Required Subjects | Chemistry or Biology, plus a second science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Maths) |
| Third Subject | Any subject (General Studies not accepted) |
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Test Required | Home applicants: UCAT or GAMSAT. International applicants: neither required. |
| Cut-off Score | Not published. Brunel's admissions policy says applicants are "ranked according to their total UCAT or GAMSAT score" and the highest ranked are invited to the vMMI, so the effective cut-off moves with the cohort. International applicants are ranked separately from home applicants. |
| SJT Consideration | Brunel does not accept applicants with SJT Band 4 |
"Brunel offers the chance to study medicine in London at a campus university - a combination that's quite rare. As a new school, you'll be part of building something, and the smaller cohorts mean more personalised attention. Worth watching as the programme develops."
— Dr. Ash, Future Doc
Note: The UCAT format changed in July 2025 with the removal of Abstract Reasoning, reducing the maximum score from 3,600 to 2,700. Cut-off scores and statistics from previous years may not directly apply to the current format.
| Aspect | Detail |

| Station Structure | Two minutes to read the scenario, then five minutes to respond |
| Interview Period | Brunel's admissions policy describes the vMMI as online and asynchronous, with invitations starting in November or December of the year before entry |
| Metric | Figure |

International students can apply, either directly to Brunel or through UCAS. International applicants are not required to sit the UCAT or GAMSAT; the admissions test requirement applies to Home applicants only.
A contextual offer is an adjustment a university makes for applicants whose circumstances have made their education harder than the grades alone suggest. Universities use them because they recognise that two students with the same predicted grades have not always had the same run at them. They are a formal, published part of the admissions process — not a favour, and not something you have to argue for.
What the adjustment actually is varies by school, and it matters more than most applicants realise. Depending on where you apply, qualifying can mean: a lower grade offer; being ranked against other widening participation applicants rather than the whole field; a guaranteed or prioritised interview; a lower admissions test threshold or extra shortlisting points; relaxed GCSE or subject requirements; or access to a separate gateway or foundation year route.
Brunel's MBBS has its own standalone contextual admissions policy, and its list is shorter than the university-wide one. For Medicine you must be eligible for Home fees, and meet at least one of:
If you meet any of those conditions, Brunel will apply a 5% uplift to your UCAT score before ranking you for interview, and may then make you a lower-graded A-level offer if you are successful at the virtual MMI.
Read this bit carefully: Brunel's university-wide contextual list is longer. It also covers applicants with a disability, mature applicants and those with a break in education, Brunel Urban Scholars participants, people from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, children of military families, and applicants who have served in the Armed Forces. None of those appear in the MBBS list. Qualifying university-wide does not qualify you for the Medicine scheme. Conversely, the MBBS list uniquely adds UCAT Bursary recipients.
| How it helps | What that means for you |
|---|---|
| A 5% UCAT uplift | Your UCAT (or GAMSAT) score is uplifted by 5% before Brunel ranks applicants for the vMMI. Because Brunel ranks on total score and invites down the list, this is the mechanism that most changes your odds of being interviewed at all. |
| A lower-graded A-level offer | Brunel's policy states it makes "lower graded A-level offers to contextual applicants". It does not publish how many grades. The offer only arrives if you are successful after the vMMI — the uplift gets you to the interview, the lower offer comes after it. |
| Your circumstances read in context | Brunel asks applicants to disclose this information on the UCAS form, and asks referees to include it in the reference, so that Admissions can "facilitate an invitation to interview and a contextual offer". If you do not declare it, it cannot be applied. |
Every school does this differently, and the differences are worth knowing before you build your shortlist — see every UK medical and dental school's widening participation scheme.
| Fee Status | Annual Tuition |
|---|---|
| Home (UK) | £10,050 |
| International | 2027/28: TBC — Brunel has not yet published a 2027/28 international fee. The 2026/27 rate is £49,395 per year, and Brunel says international fees rise annually "by no more than 5% or RPI, whichever is greater". |
Brunel's published fee table on the course page is still headed "2026/7 entry" (UK £9,790, International £49,395). The £10,050 home figure above is Brunel's own statement on that page: "The Government has confirmed that this will be £9,790 for 2026/27 and £10,050 for 2027/28 (subject to Parliamentary approval)." International applicants pay a £10,000 deposit to secure a place. Graduates applying for the MBBS cannot get a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England for the first four years, but can apply for a Maintenance Loan; from year five the NHS Student Bursary Scheme pays the fees.
Brunel's campus is in Uxbridge, West London, accessible via the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. The campus offers modern facilities with accommodation available on-site. Clinical placements will be in NHS trusts across North West London.
Applying to medical school requires more than meeting the minimum entry requirements. Here are practical steps to strengthen your application:
For an overview of all UK medical schools and how they compare, see the UK Medical Schools hub page.
Brunel requires AAA at A-Level including Chemistry or Biology, plus a second science and any third subject. GCSEs must include two sciences at grade 6/B, grade 4/C in English Language and grade 5/B in Mathematics. As a new programme, always verify current requirements directly with the university as they may be refined.
Home applicants must sit either the UCAT or the GAMSAT; international applicants are not required to take either. As a new school, specific cut-offs are still being established. They use a holistic assessment approach, so focus on achieving the best score you can while also strengthening other parts of your application.
New schools can offer advantages: smaller cohorts, modern curricula, enthusiastic faculty. They must meet the same GMC standards as established schools. If you're comfortable being part of a developing programme, it can be a rewarding experience.
Brunel is in Uxbridge, West London, with excellent transport links via the Metropolitan and Piccadilly underground lines. It's one of the few London medical schools offering a true campus experience. Clinical placements are across North West London NHS trusts.
Yes. International students can apply to Brunel Medicine, either directly to Brunel or via UCAS. One important difference: international applicants are not required to sit the UCAT or GAMSAT, whereas Home applicants must take one of the two.
Brunel uses a virtual MMI (vMMI) format, with a series of short online interviews typically held between January and March. Prepare for stations assessing communication, ethical reasoning, problem-solving, and your motivation for medicine.
Most applicants treat the medical school application as a series of separate hurdles: the UCAT, personal statement, work experience, university selection, and interviews. They try to solve each one independently. This creates a fragmented approach where the pieces never add up.
