Graduate-Only Programme: Warwick Medical School exclusively offers graduate entry medicine. There is no undergraduate (school-leaver) route. You must have completed a degree to apply.
HOW WE BUILT THIS
We compile these profiles from each university's own published admissions pages and review them monthly. Entry requirements do change mid-cycle, and universities sometimes publish updates without announcing them.
Use this page to get oriented quickly, build your shortlist, and work out which questions to ask — then confirm the specifics that your application depends on (grades, admissions test, fees, eligibility) directly with the university before you apply. If you spot something that looks out of date, tell us and we will check it.

Considering Warwick Medicine? Here's a complete breakdown of entry requirements, admissions criteria, and the application process for 2027 entry.
Warwick Medical School (WMS) is the UK's largest graduate-entry only medical programme, established in 2000 and granted independent degree-awarding status in 2007. Unlike most medical schools that offer both undergraduate and graduate routes, Warwick is exclusively designed for graduates.
The 4-year MBChB programme is specifically tailored for mature students who bring diverse life experiences and academic backgrounds to medicine. Warwick's approach recognises that career changers, mature students, and those from non-traditional backgrounds often make excellent doctors.
"Warwick is unique in that it's graduate-only. This creates a cohort of students who are all in a similar position, career changers, people with life experience, often with established responsibilities. The teaching style reflects this: it's intensive, it treats you as an adult learner, and it assumes a certain level of academic maturity. If you're a graduate considering medicine, Warwick should absolutely be on your radar."

| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Minimum Classification | 2:1 (Upper Second Class Honours) or overseas equivalent |
| Subject Area | Any subject accepted |
| 2:2 Applicants | May apply if holding a Master's degree or PhD |
Key difference from King's GEM: Warwick accepts degrees in any subject, not just biosciences. This makes it accessible to a much wider range of graduates including humanities, social sciences, engineering, and arts graduates.
Mandatory: At least 70 hours of health or social care work experience in the last 3 years, including:
This is a firm requirement, you cannot be considered without it. The work experience must be verifiable and should demonstrate your understanding of healthcare environments and your commitment to medicine.
All applicants must sit the UCAT. Warwick has specific requirements around UCAT scoring that differ from many other medical schools.
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Required Test | UCAT |
| Cut-off Score | No absolute minimum total UCAT score. Scores are combined with previous academic achievements in the shortlisting process |
| Verbal Reasoning | Must score at least the overall mean of all test-takers on the Verbal Reasoning subtest to be considered. For the 2027 application cycle this score is 600 |
| SJT Consideration | No, Warwick does not consider SJT |
| UCAT Weighting | ~60% of shortlisting score |
| Academic Weighting | ~40% of shortlisting score |
Critical: You must achieve at least the overall mean score of all test-takers on Verbal Reasoning, regardless of your total UCAT score — for the 2027 application cycle that figure is 600. Even a high total score will not be considered if your VR falls below it. Warwick does not, however, set an absolute minimum total UCAT score.
| Entry Year | Lowest Interview Score | Average Score | Highest Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2,450 | 2,750 | 3,490 |
| 2024 | 2,450 | 2,750 | 3,400 |
| 2023 | 2,580 | 2,700 | 3,400 |
| 2022 | 2,660 | 2,860 | 3,280 |
Note: The 2026 UCAT no longer includes Abstract Reasoning, so scores are out of 2,700 rather than 3,600. Warwick estimates comparable 2026 scores would be: minimum ~1,797, average ~2,097.
"Warwick's Verbal Reasoning requirement catches a lot of people off guard. You could score brilliantly overall but if your VR is even slightly below the mean for that year, you're automatically ruled out. This means you need to take VR seriously in your UCAT preparation, it's not a section you can afford to neglect."
— Dr. Ash, Future Doc
Note: The UCAT format changed in July 2025 with the removal of Abstract Reasoning, reducing the maximum score from 3,600 to 2,700. Cut-off scores and statistics from previous years may not directly apply to the current format.
Warwick uses Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) with 6 stations. This differs from King's panel format.
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Format | Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) |
| Number of Stations | 6 stations |
| Duration | ~2 hours total |
| Location | Warwick Medical Teaching Centre (in-person) |
| Interview Dates (2027 entry) | Not published at our October 2026 review. For 2026 entry Warwick ran its Selection Centre on 16–19 December 2025, with 14 February 2026 for international applicants unable to attend in person. Expect a similar December window and confirm with mbchb.admissions@warwick.ac.uk. |
Each station is strictly timed with clear instructions at the start. The MMI format tests different competencies at each station rather than in a single long conversation.

| Entry Year | Applications | Interviews | Offers | Places |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 1,326 | 549 | 311 | 203 |
| 2025 | 1,070 | 536 | 324 | 203 |
| 2024 | 1,258 | 483 | 253 | 193 |
| 2023 | 1,382 | 480 | 264 | 193 |
| 2022 | 1,758 | 479 | 248 | 193 |
Roughly 40–50% of applicants are invited to interview and around 55–60% of those interviewed receive an offer — relatively favourable odds compared with many medical schools. Warwick states that up to 13 of the 203 places each year are international, and that it only publishes data once an admissions cycle is complete.
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Minimum total UCAT score | None. "We do not have an absolute minimum total UCAT score; scores are combined with previous academic achievements in our shortlisting process." |
| Verbal Reasoning requirement | At least the overall mean score of all UCAT test-takers on the Verbal Reasoning sub-test — 600 for the 2027 application cycle. |
| Lowest UCAT score invited to Selection Centre | 1,910 for 2026 entry (out of 2,700 after Abstract Reasoning was withdrawn); 2,450 for both 2024 and 2025 entry (out of 3,600) |
| UCAT of applicants invited to interview | 2026 entry: lowest 1,910, average 2,080, highest 2,610 (out of 2,700). 2025 entry: lowest 2,450, average 2,750, highest 3,490 (out of 3,600). |
| UCAT SJT | Not used at any stage |
| Contextual UCAT adjustment | Not published. Warwick asserts a contextual admissions process for Graduate Entry Medicine but publishes no criteria and no mechanism. |
| Route | UCAS Code | Length |
|---|---|---|
| MB ChB Medicine (Graduate Entry) | A101 | 4 years |
| BSc Health and Medical Sciences (for non-graduates; not a guaranteed route into the MB ChB) | B990 | 3 years |
Warwick runs no five-year A100 and no gateway or foundation route into medicine. There is no dental school.
Warwick has an unusually transparent admissions process. Some elements that other medical schools consider are explicitly not part of Warwick's selection:
This means your UCAT score, degree classification, and work experience are the primary factors for shortlisting, followed by interview performance for offers.

See the Contextual & Widening Participation Offers section below. The short version: Warwick Medical School states that it operates a contextual admissions process for Graduate Entry Medicine but publishes neither the eligibility criteria nor the mechanism, and Warwick's university-wide contextual offer scheme explicitly excludes graduate entry medicine. We previously listed a specific UCAT adjustment here; we could not find it anywhere in Warwick's current published material at our October 2026 review, so we have removed it rather than keep repeating an unverifiable figure.

Warwick does not accept deferred entry or transfers from other programmes.

Previous applicants may reapply. You will need a new UCAT score and should ensure your application demonstrates improvement.
A contextual offer is an adjustment a university makes for applicants whose circumstances have made their education harder than the grades alone suggest. Universities use them because they recognise that two students with the same predicted grades have not always had the same run at them. They are a formal, published part of the admissions process — not a favour, and not something you have to argue for.
What the adjustment actually is varies by school, and it matters more than most applicants realise. Depending on where you apply, qualifying can mean: a lower grade offer; being ranked against other widening participation applicants rather than the whole field; a guaranteed or prioritised interview; a lower admissions test threshold or extra shortlisting points; relaxed GCSE or subject requirements; or access to a separate gateway or foundation year route.
Warwick is the hardest school in our set to be straight about, so here is the honest position. Warwick Medical School says it runs a contextual admissions process for Graduate Entry Medicine. It does not publish what that process is, who qualifies for it, or what it changes. Meanwhile the university-wide scheme that does publish a mechanism explicitly excludes this course. If you find Warwick's contextual offers page first, you will draw the wrong conclusion.
The whole of it, from the Widening Participation page: "We recognise that some students face extra challenges that can affect their ability to apply for Graduate Entry Medicine. Our contextual admissions process allows us to take these circumstances into account when considering applications."
That is the entire published statement. There is no eligibility list, no flag, no indicator, no stated grade or degree-class reduction, no stated UCAT adjustment and no stated interview guarantee — not on the widening participation page, not on the entry requirements page, not on the UCAT page, and not in the published admissions process summary. If this matters to your application, email mbchb.admissions@warwick.ac.uk and ask them to put it in writing. We would rather tell you to do that than invent a mechanism.
Warwick's main contextual admissions policy gives eligible applicants an offer up to two grades lower than standard (e.g. ABB rather than AAA) and/or removal of an additional requirement such as an admissions test. Eligibility runs on a Free School Meals flag, a neighbourhood deprivation flag (IMD 0–20%) or a school performance flag, with automatic eligibility for care-experienced and estranged applicants.
And then this, verbatim, from the same page: "The policy applies exclusively to Undergraduate (UG) entry programmes. It does not extend to foundation year or graduate entry programmes, including Medicine."
Warwick's MB ChB is graduate entry. There is no five-year school-leaver route at Warwick at all — non-graduates are directed to the BSc Health and Medical Sciences instead. So the two-grade reduction is not available to you on this course.
The real access story at Warwick is structural rather than contextual, and it is worth more than most contextual offers:
| How it helps | What that means for you |
|---|---|
| There is no A-level or GCSE requirement at all | Warwick advertises itself as "one of the only medical schools accepting students from non-science backgrounds", with "no limitations on A-Level or GCSE requirements". If your school-level attainment was damaged by your circumstances, you are not screened out on it here — because it is not looked at. Selection rests on degree class, UCAT and MMI. 40% of Warwick's medical students have degrees in non-science subjects. |
| No absolute minimum total UCAT score | Warwick states: "We do not have an absolute minimum total UCAT score; scores are combined with previous academic achievements in our shortlisting process." There is one hard floor — you must hit at least the overall mean score of all test-takers on Verbal Reasoning, which is 600 for the 2027 application cycle. |
| The SJT is not used | "We do not use SJT bands as part of our admissions process." One fewer thing to prepare, and one fewer way to be screened out. |
| Work experience is organised for you | Warwick requires 70 hours of health or social care work experience, which is a real barrier if you have no contacts in healthcare. WMS works with local hospitals to organise placements for future applicants "ensuring everyone has access to healthcare placements without the need to have pre-existing contacts". |
| Financial support once you are in | The WPH Bursary for MB ChB students, the Warwick Undergraduate Student Bursary for students from low-income households (up to £2,500 per year, non-repayable), and the Warwick Hardship Fund for unforeseen hardship. WMS also runs a competitive bursary scheme with the WPH Charitable Trust — typically a small number of awards up to £3,000 for students joining in first year, for those from a widening participation background or facing unexpected hardship. Eligibility criteria for the WPH Bursary are not published on the widening access page. |
| Support through the course, not just into it | Warwick describes a "lifecycle approach": a dedicated Pastoral Support Team with a Tutor, Senior Tutor and Deputy Senior Tutor per year group; non-scientist peer teaching in the hardest first year; BAMEntor matching incoming students who identify as BAME with senior peers; and a staff-and-student Attainment Gap Group working on systemic causes of differential attainment. |
For a side-by-side comparison, see every UK medical and dental school's widening participation scheme.
| Fee Status | Year 1 | Years 2–4 |
|---|---|---|
| UK (Home) | £10,050 | £10,050 per year |
| International (Overseas) | 2027/28: TBC | 2027/28: TBC |
The home figure is Warwick's own published rate: its undergraduate tuition fee table lists "MBChB (Graduate Entry Medicine) A101" at £9,535 for 2025–26, £9,790 for 2026–27 and £10,050 for 2027–28.
The overseas figure genuinely is not set. Warwick's overseas fee table prints "TBA" in the 2027–28 column for both bands of the MB ChB. For scale, the published 2026–27 rates are £32,510 for Year 1 and £56,660 for Years 2–4 — note how steeply the clinical years are priced. We are not going to extrapolate a 2027/28 number from that; ask Warwick, and get it in writing before you accept a place.
Note for home students: on a graduate-entry programme you are not entitled to the full Tuition Fee Loan in Year 1, so a portion of the first year's fee has to be self-funded, with NHS bursary support picking up later years. Warwick's own student funding page for Graduate Entry Medicine was still showing 2025/26 information at our October 2026 review, with 2026/27 information "available soon" — so the exact self-funded split for 2027/28 is not published. Get the figure from Warwick before you commit.
These are the dates Warwick Medical School publishes on its own UCAT page for the 2027 application cycle.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 23 June 2026 | UCAT booking opens |
| 13 July 2026 | UCAT testing begins |
| 10 September 2026 | UCAT Access Arrangements application deadline |
| 16 September 2026 (15:00) | UCAT booking deadline |
| 24 September 2026 | Last UCAT testing date |
| October 2026 | UCAS application deadline — Warwick does not restate the medicine deadline on these pages; use the UCAS October deadline for medicine and check UCAS directly |
| December 2026 | Selection Centre / MMI interviews — exact dates not published at our October 2026 review. For 2026 entry the Selection Centre ran 16–19 December 2025. |
| Early 2027 | International applicant interviews — date not published. For 2026 entry this was 14 February 2026. |
Warwick stresses booking the UCAT early: "if you book a late test and miss your test appointment, you may not be able to re-book within the testing window." It also states that neither UCAT nor Warwick will allow exemptions or change scores or cut-offs on the basis of illness or mitigating circumstances — "applicants who present themselves to test are declaring themselves fit to take the test."
The 4-year MBChB is designed specifically for graduate learners, with an intensive curriculum that builds on your existing academic skills.
Foundation in medical sciences with early clinical exposure. Approximately 65% self-directed study, supplemented by face-to-face lectures, seminars, and case-based learning.
Integration of science and clinical practice. Hospital teaching and placements begin. Case-based learning continues alongside clinical rotations.
Clinical rotations across specialties at partner NHS trusts. Increasing responsibility and preparation for foundation training.
Applying to medical school requires more than meeting the minimum entry requirements. Here are practical steps to strengthen your application:
For an overview of all UK medical schools and how they compare, see the UK Medical Schools hub page.
Only if you also hold a Master's degree or PhD. A 2:2 alone does not meet the entry requirements.
No, Warwick accepts degrees in any subject. Unlike some GEM programmes that require bioscience degrees, Warwick welcomes applicants from arts, humanities, social sciences, engineering, and all other fields.
Unfortunately, you will not be considered for interview regardless of your overall UCAT score. The Verbal Reasoning threshold is a firm requirement — for the 2027 application cycle it is the overall mean of all test-takers, a score of 600. You would need to reapply with a new UCAT score the following year.
No, Warwick only accepts the UCAT. If you prefer to sit the GAMSAT, you will need to consider other medical schools.
The content of your personal statement is not considered in Warwick's admissions process. It is checked for plagiarism only. Your UCAT score, degree classification, and work experience are what matter for shortlisting.
Contact Warwick admissions directly to confirm what types of experience qualify. The key requirement is 70 hours across at least 2 organisations and 2 roles within the last 3 years.

Watch on YouTube →Most applicants treat the medical school application as a series of separate hurdles: the UCAT, personal statement, work experience, university selection, and interviews. They try to solve each one independently. This creates a fragmented approach where the pieces never add up.
